Hearings consultation launched by Scottish Government

CHS welcomes the launch of the Scottish Government’s Children’s Hearings Redesign consultation on the recommendations of the Hearings for Children report.

Through our response we aim to continue to shape improvements in the hearings system as we work towards a Scotland where every child can grow up loved, safe and respected, and with the chance to fulfil their potential.

We are committed to driving transformation, and our work to redesign the system has already begun.

Opportunity to shape the system

In May 2023, the Hearings System Working Group, chaired by Sheriff David Mackie, published the Hearings for Children report, which was a direct response to the reports produced by the Independent Care Review which led to the inception of the Promise. The Hearings for Children report delivered recommendations for changes to the hearings system, and in December 2023 the Scottish Government gave its response to that report, accepting some recommendations while requiring further consultation on others.

CHS encourages our Community to respond to the consultation, and we will work closely with our volunteers to inform our own response. The consultation will close on 28 October 2024.

The consultation can be found at the government's Citizen Space

Contributing to this consultation will be another significant step towards keeping the Promise by 2030, and we look forward to playing our part in making meaningful change happen.
